    Monday monday…

    a thought provoking, soul-searching [poll].
today i am not at work. i do have a consulting job later, but that’s about it. i was going to try to do something with a friend today, but that’s not looking too likely – he didn’t want to be called until “late morning” – but that wouldn’t leave a lot of time before my consulting job. hmmmmm. rest comes first, i think. maybe it’s time for a nice LOOOOOOONG hot shower.
in case i forget to post later tonight/early tomorrow: happy new year, mmmkay?

    Random bits

    Yet another [poll].
It’s the end of the year, so that means it’s time to relive the events of Sept. 11th. I’ve got plenty of images/movies/stuff on my site here, but that doesn’t mean I want to dwell on it. Or hear about it again in EVERY news cast today.
My trip to Miami keeps getting longer. I’m now staying in a hotel at the airport the night before my flight (have to be at the hotel at 4:00 for security). Then I finally got confirmation that the client booked my room in Miami, but it may not be available when I arrive (at 10:00 am or so). So that means I’ll be irritated (flying always does that to me) and unable to do much about it. GREAT! I did find out that my work can be done on the same day I fly in, as opposed to the next day – giving me MUCH more room for error. I’m not expecting problems, but I’d rather have too much time than not enough – know what I mean?
The Weakest Link – what the heck? It’s a hit in the UK, so bring it here. Now it’s a hit on NBC, so CBS is making it a daily show??? Do these people know how to come up with NEW things anymore???
Ok, that’s enough. Now this post is actually a rant, so I’ve changed it. And I’m going to bed – I’m wicked tired. Later!

(Windsor Locks-AP, Dec. 28, 2001 8:30 AM) _ A Georgia man who police say referred to his wife as a “terrorist” was arrested at Bradley International Airport.
… An employee asked why Lukken had not boarded. Police say he responded … quote … “She is the terrorist” … referring to his wife.

    1. What was your biggest accomplishment this year? after being laid off for two months, getting a new job. with my previous employer. for more money!
    2. What was your biggest disappointment? getting laid off (see above and here)
    3. Will you be making any New Year’s resolutions? actually going to the gym and not getting laid off again.
    4. Where do you wish you were celebrating? home is actually not a bad place. just wish the wife wasn’t working.
    5. What do you plan to do for New Year’s Eve? between the “Twilight Zone” on the sci-fi channel, “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” on another and a big stack of stuff I’ve taped but haven’t watched, I think I’ll be in front of the tv/computer all night long. Which is fine with me. (see above bit about wife not being home).

Another fun day at the office…

So, I can’t put my personal laptop on the network, but the dozen or so folks who have company laptops can do what they please with them. I have a Mac (there are about 6 in the company) so the only other people I could possibly infect with a virus (yeah, right, like I’d let that happen) would be them – but they all use the same anti-virus software I do.

The new weird policies at work make my brain bleed. Mainly because you never hear about them until you need to do something. Just a word of warning: don’t let tech support touch your personal laptop – S still hasn’t finished fixing mine after the lame and unsuccessful attempt by tech support to get VPN installed on it.

Do Not(!) let your tech guys screw with your laptop to install VPN. Do it yourself, you know more than they do. I spent the better part of a day trying to get ours back to the way it was before NK tech support messed with it. I finally had to break down and edit the registry, always last resort.

    The problem with teen-agers…

…is that they’re not entirely reliable. My wife is on her way to my office to drop off the kids because the baby-sitter doesn’t appear to be coming. We thought we had told her to come, but she’s not home so we don’t know. When in doubt, contingency plans take over. (added the next day: turns out I thought the wife had asked her to come, the wife thought I did, so nobody did. oops!)
In other news….. well, there’s not much else. The holiday flu is slowly overtaking the family. Noah is NOT sleeping well, and when he does sleep, it’s in our bed. When he’s not sleeping, he’s punching me in the face. Dang kids. If he wasn’t sick, I know he’d sleep thru the night…. ugh. Emma, on the other hand, has the flu but is sleeping fine (and, I should point out, NOT having any accidents – knock on wood). Jen’s got it, and I’m starting to get it. Running outside without my jacket to start the car probably wasn’t a good idea, but what the heck, right?
More to come later, maybe. I’m working on a redesign of sorts, so that (and family, and work) is taking precedent right now. I’m using Winders at work, so I’m getting used to seeing things in a certain size window. I might decide to take advantage of that, or I might not. If I ever get the polls working again, I’ll let you decide for me!

what the hell is wrong with these people????

Baby rape suspects back in court
    Posted Tue, 18 Dec 2001
Two men accused of raping an infant in Joubert Park in central Johannesburg earlier this month are expected to appear in a local court today, police said.

Ok, so aside from the obvious idiocy involved here…. what the f*ck???? This apparently is a large problem in this part of South Africa. I can’t for the life of me figure out why. I only bring it up here because it’s quite alarming (not to mention sick and depraved).

    Another test, another result

The Eighties Pop Act Test deems me:
    70% Eighties Pop Act

You are U2: You moved well beyond the eighties, you have grown into a person ready for this millenium. But your best work was still the Joshua Tree. So watch 21 JumpStreet reruns.

    Merry Christmas

xmas tree all light up and stuff
I had planned on some kind of animated gif for the page – a wreath, perhaps, with flashing lights. It was a good intention. Instead, here’s my Christmas tree.
Hope everyone out there had a good holiday, and got stuff that they wanted. Peace on earth, goodwill towards your fellow men, all that good stuff.

    More blogging stuff

    weblogs: a history and perspective
    7 september 2000
In 1998 there were just a handful of sites of the type that are now identified as weblogs (so named by Jorn Barger in December 1997).

Remember last night, when I went off on a really bizarre tangent about my exposure to weblogging, and how I got sucked in? Rebecca has a nice history of blogging. Read it, ok?

    Spam spam spam spam!

‘You’ve Got Mail,’ More and More, and Mostly, It Is Junk
    By AMY HARMON
Would you like to lose weight fast? Would you like to make $5,000 a month from your home? How about trying some herbal Viagra, good for men and women?

Ok, so I’m seeing a growing trend here: everyone’s bitching about spam. I’m this (-> <-) close to re-arranging my filters (again!) to move everything that’s not to me or for one of my mailing lists into the bit bucket. I’m sure I’ll lose some mail, but it’s almost worth it – I’ve got a collection of almost 1000 messages that goes back to the beginning of this month. Twenty-four days! That’s ludicrous!!!!

    Yes! An award at last!

Least Interesting Blog On The Net – Adam Gerstein
Another good blog by a humble blogger.
Keep Trying (aka Mike Sanders, aka Zike) is giving out the “Chopped Liver Awards” – you nominate yourself for one, he considers it, then awards you with your title of choice. Since the sub-title of my blog has always been “a life less interesting,” I figured I should go with what I know. Good job, eh?
    It gets better…

    Look out for falling bricks…

So, I was trying to make some improvements, and something got messed up. I think I’ve fixed all my templates, but if you see something broken, feel free to send a note. I strongly encourage it. Heck, even if you don’t have a “bug report”, send a note – I could use some non-SPAM email right about now!

Hey, where didja get the Big Boy image? Is there a web site? Do they sell stuff on it? (Having an Elias Bros. Big Boy Brawny Lad Craving Attack — triggered by YOUR blog … )
Off to Natick, MA in a couple of hours – get to watch Stanley’s cat rip Xmas ornaments from my sister’s tree & my dog eat my nephew’s presents …
Merry Xmas to you & Jen, Emma, & Noah!

Damn I have a lot of domain names…..

check it out – these all point here!
    adam.gerstein.net
    cam.snickersnot.com
    http://www.iworshipmywife.com
    adam.iworshipmywife.com
    http://www.snickersnot.com
    snickersnot.com
    http://www.mutinydesign.com <-- new today
    mutinydesign.com <-- new today
Now, don't get me wrong - I own plenty of others too :) . But these just point to my blog. It's a little sick if I think about it. The mutinydesign one, for example.... that was supposed to be a design firm that a few friends and I were gonna start up when we were all fed up with our jobs. Never happened, but I still have it. So, to make it usefull, I pointed it here. At least I might get some use out of it, right? It’s not like anyone ever touched the server it was sitting on, so I guess it’s not getting a lot of traffic – which is why I own it :) . It’s amazing how if I own a domain name, there’s like NO traffic to the sites affiliated with it.
    It’s late. time to sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeep……..

    Friday 5 again?

    fridayfive.org
    1. What is the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? calamari. only did it once, and it will never, ever cross my lips again. ever.
    2. Name one (material) thing you can’t live without: my computer (but you knew that, didn’t you?)
    3. Name something you’ve always wanted to do but didn’t have time for: way too many things I didn’t have time for…. but I don’t have time for finishing the family web project: movies, stories, pictures…..
    4. What outrageous thing do you wish you had the nerve to do? sky-diving. but it’s just plain nuts.
    5. How do you plan to spend your weekend? sadly…. shopping. business trip coming up, so i get to schlepp both kids to stores for stuff – like a travel bag. i also have to get some stocking stuffers, but they tend to be odd things anyway, so the odd lot store might be just the ticket!
