    Hardware Wars on DVD!

hardwarewars.jpgJust saw that the very first spoof of Star Wars, Hardware Wars, is now available on DVD.
I remember seeing this back when it first came out. I think it was in middle school – as part of a class, in fact – and we all loved it. If you check out the cover, you’ll see that the “Chewbacca” actually looks like the Cookie Monster dyed brown. Low brow? Low budget? Who cares!
Now I can enjoy it again and again, along with a directors cut and a Antiques Roadshow type introduction. Fun for the whole family!

I told you! You can find anything..

So, for a while now, there’s been this show from the 80′s that I could remember bits and pieces of, but nothing specific – like, say, it’s name. With the help of JumpTheShark, I’ve been able to figure it out: Otherworld.
Yes, it’s b-tv material. Yes, it was only on for like half a season. But it was in my head, and I wasn’t the only one who saw it!
Check out JumpTheShark and see if your favorite show has “Jumped the Shark” (see the site for an explanation).

At my weigh in today, I was pleased to learn that I had lost another 4.8 pounds – bringing me up to 40.6 total! Twelve weeks, 40 pounds… and still going strong. This is very good.

    Anthology: Minority Report

Philip K. Dick has got to be one of the BEST sci-fi authors ever. Minority Report is a collection of short stories, including the title piece (which is also a new Steven Spielberg flick starring Tom Cruise). I picked it up at WaldenBooks at the mall while stumbling around, half-blind… I’ve only read the first few stories, but I really enjoyed it.

    S. Koreans "scuffle" with U.S. Troops over accident

    Yahoo! News brings us…
UIJONGBU, South Korea (Reuters) – About 500 South Koreans clashed with U.S. soldiers at a U.S. military base on Wednesday, protesting against an accident last week in which a U.S. army vehicle killed two girls during a training exercise.
The military has apologised, but they’re still pissed – understandable. But when they tore up the barbed wire around Camp Red Cloud just outside Seoul, to enter the base then I have to say that the soldiers trying to defend the base showed LOTS of restraint when they only fought back with shields and steel batons. In a case like this, I myself would have started out with teargas, then escalated to rubber bullets and maybe even some M-50′s firing over their heads.
This kind of behavior should not be tolerated. Yes, it was wrong that the 2 girls were killed, but if it was an accident, then try to get on with your lives, damnit.

This isn’t the only time some U.S. soldier(s) has killed a citizen in a different country.

    • Adam 11:47 on 2003/01/15 Permalink | Log in to Reply

That’s not the point – the point is that the local citizens don’t need to attack the base when it happens. If they attack the base, it’s possible that even more people will die – and who does that help?

    Point of Origin

HBO’s been doing a lot off good stuff – this time around, it’s a look into the mind of an arsonist. Ray Liota plays Lt. John Orr, an arson investigator who’s very good at his job – maybe too good.
Excellent camera work- including some interesting fire scenes with Orr walking through a fire as the building comes down around him – adds to the compelling storyline. I thought the ending was a bit lame though – Jen and I were coming up with different possibilities, and it was…. well, just not like we expected at all.

I am searching for any information about Arsonists. I am doing a research paper on the Mind of an Arsonist. I am attending school at Eastern Kentucky University and getting a degree in Fire, arson, and explosive investigations. I would appreciate any information that anyone can give me. Thank you!!

    eBay offering health plans?

EBay to offer health insurance to small entrepreneurs
Looks like eBay is looking to make some of their larger clients, and biggest sellers, happy – by offering health benefits to folks who’s job is to sell stuff online.
I myself have made a couple bucks off of eBay, and I can see how you could make a living off of it – so this is an interesting move on their part.

Yeah, smoking's not bad for you…

    (added at 07:57 on 11/22/02:
Ok, one last try…. I AM BEING SARCASTIC when I say that smoking is not bad for you. The point of the post below was that if Nicotine is bad for you, and it hangs out in your body for years after you stop smoking (if you stop), then how can the other effects of smoking in anyway help you? How can something that leaves a toxic substance in your body not BE BAD FOR YOU? If you pay any attention at all, that is what I say further down. The title of this post is SARCASM. I’m not the one saying that smoking is good for you – that would be the tobacco companies and their lobbyists. If it was up to me, smoking would be illegal, punishable by many years in jail. But it’s not. Instead I have to deal with people who see 6 words when they do a search on google (or where-ever) and don’t even bother to actually READ the contents of the page they’re commenting on. Most of them don’t even bother to leave a name – not too bright of them, considering that they’re flaming me from behind a wall, so I can’t even reply to them directly.

    (added at 23:07 on 10/30/02:
please read this posting with a grain of salt. If you want to add something useful to the comments, feel free – but be warned that if you post something along the lines of “smoking can kill you, you are dumb,” then I will remove the contents of your posting and ridicule your lineage and question your intelligence. You are warned.)

    Scripting News
Joshua Whalen: "Over the last 10, 20 or however many years you smoked, Nicotine accumulated in your body’s fatty tissues. Whenever you come under stress or eat badly, (or worry) your body burns some fatty tissue, and some of the stored Nicotine is released into your bloodstream, and in this way, it is kind of like having a dozen nicotine patches trickling the stuff into you. Definitely do not use the patch if you are already cold turkey. It will only maker this worse. Instead, you want to clean out your fatty tissue."
Dave Winer (author of Scripting News, blogging pioneer, and software author) recently spent some time in the hospital and has quit smoking because of it. He’s been talking about quitting and all the fun it is on his blog – and so this entry (above) was interesting.
Now, if the Nicotine is being stored in your body, and if Nicotine is bad for you…. then how can smoking NOT BE BAD FOR YOU?? Just more proof of how sleazy the tobbaco companies are.

You Allison, are a fool. You’re lucky that I didn’t delete every single entry you posted – and trust me, I was tempted to.
Have you ever heard of something called sarcasm? Did you bother to READ any of the information o the page beyond “smoking’s not bad for you”? Why don’t you just unplug your computer from the phone, turn it off, and wait for someone to come and take it away from you – you’re obviously not ready for the internet just yet. And next time, don’t be a coward and not leave your email address – I’d like to defend myself to you directly, but you don’t seem to think enough of your “argument” to make it possible to do so.

Wow. This idiot is a prime example of an AOL user who just doesn’t have a clue – how to spell, how to form a coherent thought, or how to express himself. It’s a wonder he’s managed to remember to breathe this long – let’s just hope he doesn’t manage to breed.

Studies have proven that the leading cause of most lung diseases is from smoking tobacco. What you’re saying is that Nicotine is good for you, and your probably right. Nicotine has quite a few chemicals that are good for you, or at least not harmful. But there are also chemicals that are likely to kill. I’m not saying that I agree with you, but you do raise a few good points. I do know one thing, that when it comes time for all that pure pressure about smoking, I won’t have anything to do with it, no matter what you say.

    • me 20:11 on 2002/11/21 Permalink | Log in to Reply

i respect you saying that cigarettes are good for you, however, i do no agree. you can reply and way you want to but you more than likely never convince me of that. you see, about 2 or so years ago, my mom got diagnosed with lung cancer, the doctor said it was from smoking. she wasnt that heavy of a smoker, only around 6 cigarettes a day. about 5 months after she was diagnosed, she was hospitalized and got a tube in her throat. she smoked through the hole in her throat. it was a horrible sight for me b/c i though that there was something i could have done to prevent it. i was only 11 at the time, im 14 now. a couple of months after she was hospitalized, she died. i blame her death on cigarettes and i think that any decent human being with a little bit of common sence can see that smoking kills. i know that you may not post this, but if you dont, you are denying yourself the cold, hard facts and are probably just scared b/c you know its true

smoking can kill you, you are dumb
and it kills because both my grandma and grandpa are dead from it so don’t tell me that!
u are a russian burn in He**!
george here seems to think that being russian is a bad thing. and he also is apparently paying for his internet access by the character.
george, guess what? my grandparents are dead too! it doesn’t have anything to do with smoking though, so i didn’t mention it before. maybe you’ll write back and tell the rest of the class what your grandparents have to do with smoking being bad. and why you’re such a tool for not actually reading the whole page first.

    • George 00:05 on 2002/12/21 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Your dumb have you ever seen what someone with lung cancer has to go through? Well no you haven’t so don’t say “smoking is good for you” and yes i read your dumb article and when your dead from lung cancer i’ll be at your grave tell others about how stupid you were, saying smoking is not bad for you. and if you delete this, you are just being a coward not wanting other to see what i say because it’s true and you know it even if you don’t admit to it.
again i come out on top and you lose.
I see that George is back again. I also see that he’s still not able to type coherent sentences, and that he didn’t actually bother to read what I have on this page.
The title of this page is not true.It is sarcasm. It is intended to be ironic. This means that when I saw “smoking’s not bad for you,” I’m really saying that you’re the stupidest person in the world if you believe the lies that the tobacco industry are spreading. If you pay any attention to this site, you’ll see that I support such causes as “The Truth” and other anti-smoking campaigns.
I also don’t smoke. But all of this is lost on George, who’s so convinced of his own bizarre logic that he’s sure that my deleting his comment will prove him right. Keep it coming George – you’re a moron, and every time you try to prove otherwise you just make me laugh.

    • George 16:15 on 2002/12/21 Permalink | Log in to Reply

So, if you say smoking is bad for you than why didn’t you say that in the first place moron? Your pretty dumb not to say that and make everyone think that your saying smoking is good. So in some instance your a idiot prime example of an AOL user who just doesn’t have a clue. like you said before. So again everyone knows i’m right and you are wrong so quit being the russian you are and just delete this website.
George, you poor fool. I never said that smoking was actually GOOD for you – except to say it with sarcasm – and, George, since you obviously don’t know the meaning of the word, you can click on it and get a definition that will explain it to you.
You still don’t seem to have a grasp on the English language, so I have to assume your schooling ended just after 4th grade. Too bad. This would obviously explain the fact that you continue to argue with me, your bad logic, and the fact that you seem to think I’m “russian” – which, as far as I can tell, has no bearing whatsoever on the whole discussion.
As far as just “delete this website” goes, well, I’m not going to. It’s my website, which means I can put whatever I want to on it – including saying things with sarcasm so that peons like you, who don’t read more than the title of a page, start arguments with me.
Next time you leave a comment George, why don’t you leave me your email address and take credit for your “winning”? Or perhaps you’re afraid to? Or maybe your mommy and daddy won’t let you?

      George-
While I appreciate you coming out from behind the curtain, the hotmail address certainly does make me wonder if you’re really who you say you are.
The fact that you have some kind of hatred towards Russian people makes me wonder why you’re so paranoid.
The fact that you want a rusty-trombone makes me think you need to spend less time on my weblog and more trying to find someone who’s willing to try that on you.
And the fact that you can’t spell reinforces the thought that you didn’t get very far in school.
And the fact that you can’t grasp a simple concept like sarcasm makes me whole-heartedly believe that you should just turn off your computer, throw it out the window and go find a good comic book – the internet might not be ready for you (nor you ready for it).
Come back in a few months when you’ve matured a bit, ok?

    • George 12:15 on 2002/12/24 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Wow adam your the most mature person i know using all those big words when you talk! Wow you must have gotton out of highschool all by yourself! Wow i give you some props. But keep trying on those combacks because they are really weak. But you can do it so keep tying sport and good luck.

      George-
Why do you give an email address if you never bother to check it?
I’m sick of dealing with you. And since this is my site…. you’re done! Go bother someone else, ’cause you’re no longer welcome here.

    • Goerge 22:38 on 2002/12/24 Permalink | Log in to Reply

Adam if you were smarter than a nail and i hope you are, why in gods good world would i give you my email adress think really hard on this one. Same reason you don’t give me yours! Oh and yes i check my email thanks for asking sport and happy barmitsfa
Thanks for playing George, but you REALLY don’t pay attention. All these comments come right to me. And if you look to the left, you’ll see a :contact: link, which will allow you to send me an email. So while I may not publicly post my address, I do make it easy to send me notes.
The real reason you don’t give your address is because you know that I am right about my posting – it’s sarcastic, and shows just how far the tobacco industry is willing to go to hook you on their drugs and keep you their unwilling client for as long as you live – and considering what they sell, it’s not that long.

Fun day at the salt mine…

So, today started early. Jen cleaned out the van, I puttered around the back yard with the kids (well, :abby: was asleep in the house, the other two puttered). I also did some stuff in the garage. And put training wheels on :emma:’s “Barbie” bike. Not quite a Barbie bike, but that’s what she calls it…. anyway, now she can ride it – if she could figure out that whole peddling thing.
:noah: was all over the place, getting into all kinds of trouble… Including trying to ride :emma:’s old tricycle. He fell over once (that I know of), but then sorta gave up. He did, however, spend a while running around the house/yard with :emma:’s helmet on. Yes, he looked pretty ridiculous. And it didn’t get better when he added :emma:’s pink rain boots. Good thing I have photos! When they’re developed, I’ll post them here and on the family site.
