    More adventures with the boy

:noah: did it again. Today there was no nap, so I shouldn’t have been surprised at all when he fell asleep in his high-chair while noshing a bit before dinner. I’m sure he’ll be up at 4:00 am, but at least I was able to put him in his bed for what may turn out to be the night. We’ll see.

A Beautiful Mind is the story of John Nash, mathmatician, husband, father and paranoid schizophrenic.
Jennifer Connelly does a good job as Nash’s wife; Ed Harris, given his typical small role, really did a great job with his part, as did the others. But Russell Crowe does a pretty damn good job as John Nash. His West Virginian accent was realistic throught the movie, and he really put himself into the role – one wonders if he had trouble stopping being Nash when the movie was done shooting.
    Definately worth watching.

    Continuing stupidity on the web

Don’t Link to Us! brings you “Stupid linking policies” from around the internet. For example…. this Nikon link goes against their stated policy. As does this link to the American Cancer Society. And if you live in Colorado Springs, the only way you can go to their website is to remember it or get permission to link to it – does that include adding it to your bookmarks???

    Life lessons from the boy

:noah: is a bit of an odd duck when it comes to getting him to sleep. He doesn’t like to sleep on his bed – he seems to prefer sleeping on the floor with all of his stuffed animals (hmmm – Noah, animals – a connection? :) ).
Anyway, I think he doesn’t like to sleep in the bed because he moves around so much. Sometimes, when we put him to bed, he’s not asleep when we leave the room – yes, sometimes we cuddle with him to get him comfy – so he’ll try coming out of his room and getting in our bed. Usually we just tell him that he’s got to go back to his bed, but occasionally he’ll need to be walked back.
Tonight, however…. Well, see, hhe came out as we expected – but it was about 20 minutes after we left him. He opened our door a crack, then closed it before we could say a thing. I figured he was just making sure we were still there. Anyway, we were just about to start watching “A Beautiful Mind“, so I didn’t think too much about it. We heard his door open again, so we figured he just decided to go to bed.
When the movie was over, we found the bathmat laying on the landing, his Woody (from Toy Story) figure (I’ll have to take a photo for this to be fully understood) on the floor next to it, and him no-where to be found – except in his room, where he should have been. We reckon he decided to use the bathmat to cover up, since he was gonna try to sleep there again (he tried that the other night, and actually slept there a while).
Sometimes I just want to hold him and squeeze him, he’s so cute. Other times I wish he could talk so I could figure out just what the hell he’s thinking. This is one of the latter.

What do I have to do…

To get more visitors? According to sitemeter, which is a little better than my log files, I’ve had about 400+ visits this week. That’s about 57 a day.
The telling bit? The average visit time is 0:55. Thats 55 seconds. What the heck am I doing wrong???

If you haven’t written anything new I don’t stay more than a few seconds – maybe these are all loyal readers looking for new stuff! Have you checked out the difference on days that you post items?

I’m reading, I’ve been here for more that 45 seconds, and life is congested (nasally, that is).

    Wokka wokka wokka

We have a wok that was bought for us a “The Big E” (which is a giant mass of humanity gathering in Springfield, MA for several weeks. It’s messy, it’s noisy, parts of it are smelly. But it’s AWESOME!).
Apparently, a good wok is never cleaned – you just rinse it out, wipe it down, maybe add some oil, but that’s the closest you should get to cleaning it – if you do it like this, it adds flavor to the wok, and thus adds flavor and other goodness to the food you cook in the wok.
It also makes it look NASTY. I rinsed it out tonight and realized that I don’t know if I ever really want to look at it that close up again. Or, on reflection, if I ever want to eat anything cooked in it again.
But at least it doesn’t smell bad – yet.

The same crap I've been dealing with

    moxie.nu | blog
Madison is seeing what I’m seeing – that people want employees, and they want experience, but they’re not willing to pay for it:
    Me:
I’m fairly flexible within reason. In the past I’ve spent a lot of time interviewing only to find that our ideas of fair compensation were at opposite ends of the spectrum
    Him:
I understand. We are budgeted at 35K
    Me:
    A YEAR?

I was interviewing for a job I didn’t get and they were offering a lot less than I was making before for a “senior engineer” position. So, they were paying entry level wages for a “senior” position – implying that the applicants would have at least 5+ years experience.
What the hell is that about???

Fun things to do with technology

    Desktop Cell Phone
So, first his flip cellphone stops working – he duct tapes it and it works. Now he’s decided to convert the duct tape phone into a desktop phone. Cool.

    What's in a name?

For celebs, playing the name game is price of fame
If you’re looking for Bruce Willis, remember that you need to call the hotel and ask for Mr. Wilson – but Tiger Woods is apparently lesser known as “B. Simpson.”

    Interesting…

The Smoking Gun brings us the “skinny” on…. A Survivor with a murky past.
Seems that one of the new Survivors, Brian Heidik, lists “actor” on his resume. Sure, you may have seem in during his stint on “Days of Our Lives.” Or maybe his one appearance on “Doogie Howser, M.D.” or “Baywatch Nights.” But what about his soft-core porn career???

    zilla this, baby!

Godzilla vs. the blog thing – Tech News – CNET.com
Dave Linabury runs Davezilla. It has “zilla” in the name and does, in fact, have a lizard like mascot. But does that mean he’s infringing on the rights of those who own the “Godzilla” trademarks?
What about AOL/TimeWarner’s Mozilla project is next? What about Quizilla?

    WTF???

A couple of days ago, I pointed out the battle of the “save karyn” and “don’t save karyn” websites.
She was just on the “Today” show on NBC. Why? ‘Cause apparently she’s managed to get herself a book deal to write about her experiences. If she makes extra money, she promised Matt Lauer that she’d “give back to the community.”
I went and checked out her site again (before it was hit with the slashdot effect) and found, to my surprise that she’s made about $4,000 (and that’s just going back in the last couple of weeks).
Guess what? I have an announcement coming in the next day or two…..

Hate to say I told you so…

Former boyfriend charged with murdering woman, held on $2 million bond
<(Danbury-WTNH, Aug. 13, 2002 Updated 5:06 PM) - A Danbury man who was the first to report his ex-girlfriend missing is now charged with her murder. Danielle Piazza seemed to disappear without a trace nearly two weeks ago. Police say they have found her body in Danbury.
When I first heard about this story, I thought to myself “Dude – he totally did it.” Maybe it was the way he was photographed, but he just looked guilty. Maybe it was because the couples 4 year old daughter was quoted as saying “She said ‘Grandma, you have to stop crying. Mommy’s not coming back, Mommy’s dead’. And I said, ‘Why?’. And she stood right there and she explained to me. She said,’Daddy stabbed Mommy and then he dragged her into the woods and covered her with dirt’,”.
Hmmmmmmm. So, the last person to see her was her ex-boyfriend. And her daughter was claiming that daddy killed mommy. Hmmmmm.

It’s now been one year since Dani was killed, her murderer was sentenced to a meager 33 years in prison, he’ll be 62 when he is set free. Danielle’s son will be 42 years old the day Dan is released from prison, quite a birthday present, huh? I hope the world will never forget Danielle, she was a friend, a daughter, a sister and a mother and for those who love her life will never again be the same.
