As I might have mentioned a few times, Emma and the others have seen The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy a couple of times. A couple – well, ok, like 50 times. Anyway….
Emma likes it so much, she decided she was going to make a picture for me. Two weeks later – she doesn’t have a lot of free time during school, you know – she brought this home. She drew all the photos herself. And spelled all the words herself – phonetically. In case you can’t figure it out….
“Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” and “Starship Heart of Gold” along the top. The flag says “Magrathea” – a planet in the book. She also put “Don’t Panic” in – very important – and then there’s the usual mushy stuff down at the bottom.
But how cool is that? I’m really impressed with the spelling though – those aren’t the easiest words, and she did a great job.

Almost caught by the man…
(I should point out that I wasn’t actually speeding – but as usual, when it comes to a speed trap, you still get all nervous and paranoid….)
I was driving through New Haven today, and the car in front of me got nailed by a police officer. The officer was just standing on the sidewalk with a radar/laser gun, tagging cars as they drove towards her.
Mr. Jaguar in front of me was apparently too busy to pay attention, and was more than a little surprised when she stepped off the sidewalk and into the street – with him still quite a ways away – to tell him he was just so busted.
After I knew I wasn’t in trouble, I started to laugh maniacally – it was nervousness at first, but then I realized that I had gotten lucky. Very lucky. -

True? Well, I did sorta live it….
Salon.com Technology | “We don’t support that”: We’re not here to help fix your computer. We just want to get you off the phone. A tech-support slave tells his hellish tale.”
I’m not saying that the story is a lie, but when it was my job, it wasn’t quite that bad. Sure, the customers did suck occasionally, but the co-workers were great, and I still sorta miss it to this day. -

Sick kids part deux
So, on Wednesday, we sent one of my nieces back home – she had a stomach bug and didn’t want to be around, nor did we want her around, to be honest – kids throwing up should be with their parents. It’s a rule I read somewhere.
Anyway, so after several days without incident, Noah decided yesterday to be sick. In the car on the way home. We managed to get him to do it in a bad – always a good thing to have in the car – and it didn’t get any better from there. He wanted to drink some apple juice, so I gave him some – and that came back up. He wanted more, I warned him, but gave it to him – and it came back. Ugh.
Anyway, he seems to be done, as the last incident he had was last night around 11:15 or so, and has managed to hold down his breakfast (chocolate milk and Krispy Kreme donuts, of course!) and some lunch – PB&J, of all things.
Now he’s leaping around the kitchen like a frog. I’m really hoping that :noah: will be the first – and last – to get this particular stomach bug. Time will tell. -

Friday five: the last time….
When was the last time you…
1. …went to the doctor?
Just over a year ago, for my last physical.2. …went to the dentist?
Just about a month ago, for a filling – without novacaine!3. …filled your gas tank?
Just Friday, I believe – it seems like I need gas every 4 days or so, more when I have to venture up to Hartford….4. …got enough sleep?
The year was 1998, and it was about 4 weeks before my oldest (:emma: ) was born.5. …backed up your computer?
Almost every night, baby! Ever since I lost a term paper back in college (the first time) I’ve been ruthlessly efficient in my fanatical devotion to the king – er, I mean I back up all the time. You only have to suffer that lesson once! -

The Joy of Oz
It’s lunch time, so I make sandwiches – not an unusual occurence.
What is odd is that 2 out of 3 kids in the house are busy watching The Wizard of Oz. Again.
It’s not like they watch it every day, but it is in the top 15 movies in the house – and getting more popular all the time, since :abby: is just discovering it….. -

PC users: spyware info
Spyware Warrior
A site with some useful info – and links – to info about the spyware that’s probably on your computer right now!
While I personal suggest Ad-Aware for my spy/ad/malicious-ware detection and removal needs, there’s other tools out there – just make sure you use it wisely and often! -

Fun with sick kids
So, :emma:’s birthday party for her friends from school is today – it’s February vacation this week. We brought two of our nieces down to help us out with the other two kids and make life easier.
Little did we know that we were bringing a sick kid to Milford. It’s bad enough having to deal with our own sick kids (just colds, thanks) but importing one special just for helping out? That’s pretty nuts.
The good news is that I get to drive her home. That’s also the bad news…. it’s an almost 2 hour round trip. Maybe I can work something out with her mom…. -

Nice action figure from the Matrix
This
Sentinel is a pretty nice little reproduction from the movie. I’ve seen it on store shelves, and thought it was pretty nice. Apparently there is also an APU (armored personnel unit) of Mifune, one of the defenders of Zion, that’s the same scale and goes with this one. I just read about the APU, and if it’s as nice as the Sentinel, then it’s a great addition to anyone’s collection.
I’d buy this sort of thing, except for the fact that :noah: loves to play with my things. Computers, Lego, parts on my desk, CD’s – you name it, he plays with it. His most recent favorite was my Star Wars Christmas tree ornaments – he snapped off Luke Skywalkers arm, and broke Qui-Gon Jinn’s light saber. Lucky for us, I have Crazy Glue and got both Princess Amadala and C3-PO for this years ornaments – 3PO is Noah’s try at apologizing. Of course, I didn’t see 3PO for most of the time the tree was up, as Noah was using him as an action figure – which is how the two Jedi’s got hurt in the first place….. -

Dilbert on DVD – sweet!
Now available on DVD:
Dilbert – the entire series!
Sure, you can still watch it at midnight on Sunday nights – thanks to Comedy Central – but wouldn’t it be nice to have it all right there, at your finger tips, ready to watch any time you want? -

Congratulations Scapers – You did it!:
“Farscape, cancelled last year by the SCI FI Channel, will return as a 4 hour mini-series.”
I didn’t know about this, but I’m glad I decided to check the site – Farscape is coming back for a 4 hour mini-series. I know that it would be better to have another full season, but at the very least, we’ll be able to find out what happened to John and Aeryn – and since the show ended on such a cliff-hanger, that’s a blessing and more than Sci-Fi probably would have given us if it was totally up to them. -

Using the web for good…
WIL WHEATON DOT NET: jukebox breakdown
Google News has this nifty feature that lets you subscribe to news alerts. You tell Google what to watch for, and when those key words are found, it will send you an e-mail alert. I use it to watch for “Jenna Jameson declares love for Wil Wheaton.” While it hasn’t found that particular story just yet, it lets me know when my name appears on one of the news sources Google crawls.”
I doubt Google will consider this page a source of “news,” but if it will make Wil happy, then so be it

Last summer I had lunch with a couple of friends, at the Subway on the corner of Chapel and Temple.. Outside two female officers were pulling cars over for driving through red.. The vigour and anger in these ladies as they pulled a car over was enormous.. a marvelous sight, we were laughing out loud! one of the best lunches of last year ; )

I stopped into the Subway near SCSU in a clearly marked parking spot. I came out to find a parking ticket. Hmmmmmm.
