    Would you believe…

Trying not to offend: Stuck at apple
It’s only a week or so old, but the glass elevator at the Apple Store Fifth Avenue got stuck with some folks inside it. Apparently they weren’t too traumatized by the ordeal, but it turns out they weren’t offered iPod minis as consolation prizes. That’s just too bad.

World News tonight gets a new anchor

Charles Gibson Named Sole Anchor for ABC News – Los Angeles Times
I wonder why this is such huge news? Is it because the hub-ub over Katie Couric has finally started to die down?
So Charlie will be staying on “Good Morning America” until the end of June, when he’ll do WNT full time. More than full time, according to Elizabeth Vargas, who is the current anchor – but she has a point.
“(ABC News President David) Westin had said he envisioned the job being too much for one person, since he wanted the anchors to travel frequently to news sites and do separate versions of “World News Tonight” online and for West Coast audiences”
I think that this format makes the show a little better – similar to how GMA is handled, where they have three anchors now, and they switch off among them. Not just during the show, but there have been times, like when Gibson’s grandchild was born and Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts just did their thing without him. I think it’s a little more organic and easier to deal with.

    What it does…

    Subject: Adam’s Plug In 1.0.7
    Howdy folks!
Enclosed is the latest and greatest version of my Eudora Plug-in (v1.0.7) which adds the following panels to your Eudora Settings (from the Read-Me):
Color/Desktop: Let’s you change some of the colors that Eudora uses and how much of the Desktop you see.
X-Headers: Let’s you add your own X-Headers (it’s fun. Trust me!).
Misc. Settings: Changes the Send button text, default text strings and the size that files are split at. You can also change the (Recipient List Suppressed) to whatever you want…..
Stationery/Text: Change the stationery file name and tweak how text appears, as well as editing stuff for forwards.
Ports and Protocols: For the real geeks among us, change how long it takes before Eudora barfs on you, what port you use or the protocols that you’re using.
Attributions: Instead of “? wrote:”, make it something snazzy and insert an extra .
Date/Time: Change how Eudora displays the time and dates for messages sent/received.
Connections: Tweak some minor settings for your connections.
Disk Space: Some settings for compacting and buffer size.
From: Change how the From: address reads (ie “Real Name <user@host>” instead of “user@host (Real Name)”)
Logging: Change what is logged and what ain’t, as well as the size of your logging files.
Suppressed Headers: That’s right, suppress the headers that bug you! Normally done with ResEdit, now via Eudora!
If you like it, all I ask is some email telling me that you use it, and if you don’t, then tell me what you don’t like and I’ll see what I can do!
Also, I’m working on web pages for help/instructions. Check them out!

    Thanks,

      Hi Adam,
I’ve been using something called “Adam’s 2.0″ for years. It has this link and says it’s 2.0.0ß, created Oct 2002. Do you know about this version? Is there a link to it anywhere?

    Where to get it!

You can download the plugin from here.
At the moment, I’m not currently hosting the plugin files myself because I’ve been too busy to get them uploaded. In case anyone wants it, the link is above – and since it still works under OS X (it’s not pretty, but it does work), I figure there’s a chance I might try to fix the cosmetic flaws.

    Pilot season….

WiReD News has a fun little story about the Pilots that don’t make it. There’s some strange sounding shows out there – Ethel is an Elephant comes to mind – but you have to wonder what happens to most of them – especially since ordering a pilot costs quite a bit of money. Apparently more than a few pilots end up on the internet – such as the one for Heat Vision and Jack. It’s backed by Ben Stiller, stars a then unknown Jack Black, and features Owen Wilson as…. well, you’ll have to see it. And check out this website about the show.
Don’t forget to check out the Forbes Top 10 failed Pilots. Kinda interesting.

    Network Neutrality part deux

Check out this video over on YouTube to see some of the chilling effects of what’s going on….

    Network Neutrality

Save the Internet: Click hereThe Communications Opportunity, Promotion and Enhancement Act (COPE) Act is supposed to be a good thing. Turns out that it’s been hacked quite a bit by various people (aka special interest groups) to allow them to disregard the network neutrality agreements. What is network neutrality? Check out the wikipedia link (new window) for more info.
Basically, the way things are worded now, if the bill becomes a law, then your ISP will be able to “tax” websites for access to their customers. If, say, Google doesn’t pay the fee, then an ISP could slow customer access to the website, or block it entirely. They could even, theoretically, make it so that when you go to Google, you end up at their own search engine. And blogs that are critical of the ISP? Oh darn, you no longer have access to that site – it’s now on the black list.
It would also allow companies to do whatever they wanted on their own networks – in the mid-90′s, Cox Cable blocked the common ports used for VPN access – “forcing the state of Washington, for example, to contract with telecommunications providers to be sure its employees had access to unimpeded broadband for telecommuting applications.” (Wikipedia).
If you enjoy the internet the way it is now – where you can access a wide variety of information in a timely manner (based on the level of your internet access, of course), then you need to take action.
    You can:
Contact your Congressperson (via the House website, or MoveOn.org)
Sign the Save the Internet Petition
    Spread the word.

    The idiocy continues…

Daily Kos: The President Speaks, Americans Demand Answers
It would seem that while Bush is talking about how the nations intelligence activities are being targeted at “al-Qaida and their affiliates”, the new nominee for CIA Director is saying that “we cemented a deal with another corporate giant to jointly develop a system to mine data that helps us learn about our targets” – aka everyone in the country.
Add to that the fact that the NSA Knows Who You’ve Called and you have a nice comfy feeling in the gut of Joe American, who hasn’t done anything wrong but has Big Brother breathing down his neck….
