Windows 7 for up to 50% off?

Amazon.com has Windows 7 pre-orders available for up to half off. While I’m not the biggest fan of Windows, I am a fan of saving money – and having tried the Windows 7 beta, I can say that I like it more than I liked Vista. So if you plan on buying it, save yourself some cash and pre-order it now.

There have been some books kicking around on my list of things to read/recommend, so I thought I’d share some today:
ZeitounWhen Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, Abdulrahman Zeitoun, a prosperous 47-year-old Syrian-American and father of four, chose to stay through the storm to protect his house and contracting business. In the days after the storm, he traveled the flooded streets in a secondhand canoe, passing on supplies and helping those he could. A week later, on September 6, 2005, Zeitoun abruptly disappeared. (thanks to Jason)

ZodiacNeal Stephenson’s “Eco Thriller” chronicles Sangamon Taylor’s attempts to protect Boston Harbor from a chemical companies attempts to dump waste, cover it up and get away with it. From exciting Zodiac chases on the Charles to dramatic plot points, it’s got it all. Radically different from Stephenson’s more computer oriented works, but if you’ve enjoyed his other works, you’ll really enjoy this one too. If not, check out his other novels.

Dead Until Dark: A Sookie Stackhouse NovelSookie Stackhouse is just a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. Until the vampire of her dreams walks into her life – and one of her coworkers checks out….
Maybe having a vampire for a boyfriend isn’t such a bright idea.

This is the first in a series of “Sookie Stackhouse” novels, and the (loose) basis for HBO’s series, True Blood.

    Apple's "App Wall" at WWDC…

appwall.jpgTechCrunch seems to be the only website even mentioning Apple’s cool “App Wall”, which was setup at the WWDC in San Francisco. The icons pulse and such when an application is purchased, but the data isn’t shown in real time. It does, however, show every icon available, which is pretty impressive.
I’m still kinda irked that I couldn’t go this year….
(Photo stolen from the Tech Crunch article, but it’s THEIR photo. Really)

Surprise Wedding Reception at Improv Everywhere

In case you haven’t heard of Improv Everywhere:

Improv Everywhere causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places. Created in August of 2001 by Charlie Todd, Improv Everywhere has executed over 80 missions involving thousands of undercover agents. The group is based in New York City.

They just threw a Surprise Wedding Reception. I suggest you go to the page and checkout the photos/videos. Very funny stuff.

    Snoopy making a come back?

Peanuts Snoopy Sno-Cone MachineBack when I was a kid, there was only one effective way to cool down in the summer. Well, two, if you had a pool. Number one? The Peanuts Snoopy Sno-Cone Machine. Pop a bunch of ice cubes into the top (under Snoopy) and turn the shaver – the snow starts coming right out, making the fun instant – the best kind.
Just wish they had them in stock right now, and not “coming soon now…”
